It disappeared then reappered than disappered again. There seems to have been some suggestions that some of the components were borrowed from other modders without permission. I find that hilarious as modders almost never request permission to copy real cars to begin with.I've been away from rFactor for several years and recently returned. I recall a few times where some top grade modders like Pro Mod, iDT, MAK, and Enduracers were accused of 'ripping', often by some other modder who had previously released a WIP of inferior quality. The ripping claims got to a point where one of the 'central' websites for mods simply disregarded the ripping claims. Once rFactor2 came out that decision backfired for them as none of the established modders would present their mods there anymore. It was sort of timely for me, as I cloned my C drive just before it was taken down and was able to restore it. Nice mod, I like it better than the 2017 F1 mod I found off a website.

Yeah, BlackGoku got banned from the official forum and (AFAIW) any mentions of his mod are prohibited.I questioned him about the legitimacy of his MOD, which of course got him very upset, something which we all know is a natural reaction when you get permissions to use other people's work (wink). Then he kept saying 'I have all permissions' but never did once showed evidence of this, which again is the natural behavior of someone who respects and have permissions to use other people's work (wink again). Originally posted by:Not strictly true. A few years back the FIA sent “cease and desist” requests to lots of modders. Were they using assets from F1 games or calling the mod 'F1 something'? Even if a modder creates an exact replica of e.g. The Mercedes F1 car and call it 'Mercedes', the 'shape' and name of the car are intelectual properties of Mercedes, not the FIA.So I could very well build a F1-Compliant 3D model from scratch, give it a red color, call it 'Ferroro Formula A' and nodoby would even dare to come after me. As long as I don't use the 'F1' trademark and their assets, the FIA has absolutely no business in telling me what I can or can't sell. No it wasn't just people using Codemasters assets or using the F1 name.
All the major sim sites got the requests to take down anything remotely F1 related. Back in 2014 I think? It’s not so much the trademark infringement I think they want to control the quality of everything that can even be perceived as being related to them.
It’s similar to how the Chinese copy a car exactly and give it a different name. They are still infringing IP law and nobody lets them sell these cars outside of China.Automobilista (although a commercial product) had to change the liveries for their Formula ultimate cars because they looked too similar to the real F1 cars.
All it took was it coming to the attention of the FIA.If your car looks enough like the FIA's product and it came to their attention they sure would dare to tell you to stop selling it no matter what name you gave it.Anyway this is getting a bit OT. I personally believe that if someone works hard to build quality models, sounds and graphics in a mod its morally the right thing to do to ask them if you can use it in a different mod. But claiming the original authors have some legal right to do this work in the first place is actually wrong. They only get away with it by not coming to the attention of the IP holders.
